CAN-DO

• We have to go shopping in preparation for special dishes called osechi before New Year's Eve.
• We make sure to visit a shrine or temple to make wishes for the New Year. It's called hatsumode.

• ちょうど今日、初詣って英語でなんていうのかな……？　と思っていたところだった。

Lesson 126

CAN-DO

• This is a special Japanese family holiday. We have to clean the whole house by New Year's Eve.
• In our New Year's, we bring new hopes by cleaning everything from the past year.

Note

• 年末は、確かにアメ横は混雑するし、そのほとんどはお正月の準備のための買い物に来ているのだろう。しかし年末以外でもアメ横は込む。アメ横は、お正月の準備のためだけに存在するわけではないのだ。
